FAQS
Shutters
- Wood shutters (typically basswood or other hardwoods) offer a natural grain finish and can be custom-stained or painted. They are lightweight yet strong, but require maintenance in high-humidity areas.
- Poly-hybrid shutters combine a solid polyurethane core with a durable synthetic coating, making them moisture-resistant and ideal for kitchens, bathrooms, or anywhere in your home.
- 3.5 inches – The most traditional option, offering a balance of visibility, privacy, and airflow.
- 4.5 inches – A more popular modern choice with wider openings, allowing for maximum natural light and outdoor views, with better light blockage when fully closed.
Absolutely. Custom shutters can be designed for arched, circular, octagonal, and bay windows using horizontal or sunburst-style louvers. For French doors, shutters are often installed with a cut-out section for door handles and secured with a 180-degree hinge for full functionality.

Roller Shades
- Light filtering shades diffuse natural light, reducing glare while maintaining privacy. Room darkening shades block nearly all light, making them ideal for bedrooms and media rooms.
- Solar screen shades reduce heat and UV rays while preserving outside visibility, perfect for sun-facing windows and patios.
Roller shades are made from woven polyester, vinyl-coated fiberglass, or PVC-free solar fabrics, depending on the level of opacity and durability needed. Room-darkening options feature foam-backed or laminated layers for enhanced insulation and light blockage.
- Cordless Spring Mechanism – A clean, child-safe option with a manual push-and-pull function.
- Continuous Chord Loop – Allows smooth operation for large shades and maintains precise positioning.
- Motorized (Battery or Hardwired) – Smart-home compatible and remote-controlled for effortless operation.
Roller shades reduce heat transfer through windows by blocking UV rays and insulating against temperature fluctuations. Solar screen shades prevent heat gain while preserving visibility, while room darkening shades provide an added thermal barrier for improved insulation.

Barn Doors
Our barn doors are crafted from solid hardwoods like poplar and basswood, and/or engineered wood. Hardwoods offer natural grain patterns and durability, while engineered options provide a smooth, consistent surface with minimal warping.
- Flat track system – The most common, with an exposed rail and roller wheels.
- Soft-close system – Slows the door before full closure for quiet operation.
- Bypass system – Allows multiple doors to slide past each other for tight spaces.
- Ceiling-mounted track – Ideal for rooms with limited wall space.
Standard barn doors are 1-3/8” to 1-3/4” thick, ours are 1-1/2” being the most common for durability and smooth sliding. Thicker doors provide better sound insulation and structural integrity.
- Matte black – A modern, versatile look for most wood tones.
- Brushed nickel – Complements contemporary and farmhouse designs.
- Gold tone – A versatile designer color staple.
To maximize privacy, we consider:
- Full-overlay installation – Extends beyond the doorway for better coverage.
- Privacy locks – Available as hook-and-latch, teardrop, or sliding bolt styles.
- Soft-close tracks – Help prevent gaps by ensuring a tight fit when closed.
